It was produced for under $1 million and turned into a sleeper hit with worldwide revenues of $225 million.

The movie became the highest grossing film of 1976. That year it acquired three Oscars including one for Best Picture. In addition, it received critical praise from the press and launched Stallone into a significant star.

The first Rocky movie tells the story of Rocky Balboa who’s an uneducated but kind hearted debt collector to get a Philadelphia loan shark. Through a stroke of fortune, Rocky found himself as having a shot in the world heavyweight championships once the scheduled competition struck his hands.

The movie’s cast also contains Talia Shire as Adrian, Burt Young as Adrian’s brother and Rocky’s friend Paulie, Burgess Meredith as Rocky’s coach Mickey Goldmill, and finally Carl Weathers since the present champion Apollo Creed.

It is not known but on account of the very low budget of this movie, a range of Stallone’s loved ones played minor roles. Stallone’s dad played with the man or woman who laps the bell to signal the start and finish of a round; his brother Frank played a street corner singer, and his first wife Sasha served as the group photographer.

If this project was provided to the studios, they all liked the idea but seen it as a fantastic vehicle for an established male celebrity like Robert Redford, Ryan O’Neil, of James Caan. Stallone appealed into the studios to be provided the opportunity to star in this movie. He was quoted later as having believed that he could have never forgiven himself in case the movie became a success in the starring role.

Deciding who to play the role of Adrian has been a little challenging. Initially the function was put with Carrie Snodgress however a cash dispute shifted this. Susan Sarandon was auditioned however she had been deemed too pretty for the role. After Talia Shire read for the role, she was quickly signed and the rest would be now history.

The first movie went to spur five sequels over the subsequent thirty years such as Rocky II, III, IV, V, and Rocky Balboa. For this day the original movie stays a fantastic reputation as a classic.
